Privacy Policy

1. What Lucent is

Lucent is a podcast transcript search tool. You provide podcast episode URLs (via RSS feed), Lucent transcribes them using OpenAI Whisper, and lets you search the resulting transcripts. This policy explains what data we handle in that process.

2. Data we collect

• Account data. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture URL from Google's OAuth flow. We store these to identify your account.
• Collection and search data. The collections you create, the episodes you add, and the search queries you run are stored in our database so you can access them later.
• Share link visit data. When someone opens a share link you generated, we log the visit timestamp and approximate country. We do not log IP addresses beyond what our hosting infrastructure retains for security purposes.
• Transcript data. Audio is fetched from public podcast RSS feeds. The resulting transcript text is stored in our database. Audio files are not stored after transcription.
• Usage telemetry. We collect anonymised product usage events (e.g. “user searched a collection”) to understand how the product is used. These events contain no personally identifiable information.

3. How we use your data

• To authenticate you and display your collections.
• To transcribe podcast episodes you select and store the results.
• To power the search functionality inside your collections.
• To show you who has opened share links you generated.
• To improve Lucent through anonymised usage patterns.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data to train AI models.

4. Third-party services

• Google OAuth. Used for sign-in. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• OpenAI Whisper. Audio is sent to Whisper for transcription. OpenAI processes the audio according to their API data policy — audio submitted via the API is not used to train OpenAI models (as of the time of writing).
• Hosting infrastructure. We use cloud hosting providers. Standard server-level access logs may be retained for security and debugging purposes.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your account data and transcripts are retained as long as your account is active. To delete your account and all associated data, email us at the address below. We will action deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Cookies

Lucent uses a single session cookie (forge_app_session) to keep you signed in. No advertising cookies, no third-party tracking cookies. Your dark/light mode preference is stored in localStorage, not sent to any server.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update the effective date at the top of this page when material changes are made. Continued use of Lucent after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
